While driving from west to east Lombok over the central route, we had a fairly close encounter with two people. They waved as us after I made the picture, and we left again. In the background you can see a vulcano. The inlands of Lombok are very dry, but since the dry season is extra dry and the wet season is late, the region is extra dry. Parts of Lombok received aid in the form of rice and water tanks (with water) in August 2003.
