In general the walls of the former fortress are in reasonable condition. Heavy rains and a scorching hot sun have eroded the plaster from these walls a long time ago and the masonry itself is eroding as well. Fort Willem II is located about one kilometer outside the current village of Ambarawa at a short distance off the main road Semarang - Yogyakarta in Central Java.
