From the roof of Fort Van der Wijck you have a nice view over the direct environment and also a military training field. A picture taken on the estate of Fort Van der Wijck, in the town of Gombong, at about 20 kilometers of Kebumen. The fortress as built by the Dutch around 1820, during the revolt of Diponegoro. The fort - that is located less than one kilometer from the main road - is opened (almost) daily. Over time the fortress is kept in almost the same Dutch conditions, only the area around it have been adapted to fit Indonesian needs. Visitors pay a few dimes to get in.
