Early 2008, Bank Indonesia announced they were to issue a 2.000 Rupiah banknote to fill the current gap between the 1.000 and 5.000 values. The banknote is generally grey of color and features prince Antasari, from Kalimantan.
In the middle of 2008, Bank Indonesia announced that the launch of the 2.000 Rupiah banknote was to be postponed until early 2009. Eventually it was early July 2009 that the banknote was officially launched.
