Sukabumi is a nice mountain town where a cool climate is remarkable. In the environment you will find tea-, kinine- and rubber-plantations. The few tourists which visit Sukabumi don't come here for the city itself but for the recreational area in Selabintana, a mountain resort seven kilometers north of the town, or to go to Javana Spa or Gunung Halimun. Since a while it's possible to white water raft west of Sukabumi, on the Citarik River. The organisation of these exciting trips offers them from Jakarta. The best time for rafting is the wet season. Others are looking for relaxing along the southern coast in the myserious fishery village Pelabuhan Ratu, the seaport of the goddess of the SouthSea, Nyai Roro Kidul. In the neighborhood there are lots of possibilities for relaxation and exploration.
East of Sukabumi, on the road to Bandung, you can visit a gemstone processing plant in Sukareja and in Warungkondang you can see people working at home.
There is a daily train service between Bogor and Sukabumi, which departs twice a day. The very special trip through the mountainous landscape takes about two hours, because trains don't reach 60 km/h. There are also buses available between Jakarta, Bogor and Pelabuhan Ratu and back.
