Madiun is the capital of regency and lies at a distance of twenty-five kilometers north of Ponorogo. In this town is the big repair shop of the State Railway Enterprise and some sugar mills. Madiun is located on the slope of Lawu Mountain. It is the site of an important air force base. In the Sarangan recreation complex can also be found a pond called Warung and the Ngadiloyo Waterfall and there is a camping ground at Mojosemi, three kilometers north east of the pond.
