Banyuwangi is a town the capital of Banyuwangi Regency. This Regency covers an area of about 5,782.50 square kilometers. Banyuwangi has a ferry harbor at Ketapang for crossing to Gilimanuk in Bali. This area is the biggest rice producer in Jawa Timur. A stage for the local performing arts of Jawa Timur is found here. In the distant past, this area was the center of the Blambangan Kingdom. From Banyuwangi, trips to the Ijen Plateau can be arranged.
