Banyuwangi is a town the capital of Banyuwangi Regency. This Regency covers an area of about 5,782.50 square kilometers. Banyuwangi has a ferry harbor at Ketapang for crossing to Gilimanuk in Bali. This area is the biggest rice producer in Jawa Timur. A stage for the local performing arts of Jawa Timur is found here. In the distant past, this area was the center of the Blambangan Kingdom.
