Daendels first entered Jawa in 1808 in Anyer. Not long after he ordered the construction of the 'Groote Post Weg', 'Big mail road', which runned from Anyer to Panarukan in Eastern Jawa.
The 75,5 meter high lighthouse Menara Mercua Suar was built by the Dutch in 1885. The iron tower concludes 18 storeys and a long stairs. You can't enter the tower without permission of the guard. You can enjoy a splendid panoramic view from upstairs.
You can take the bus from Kalideres busstation in Jakarta, take the bus to Labuhan in Merak or a minibus to the north.
