Harvesting time in Indonesia
		April 2008 - Harvesting season is on it's way in Indonesia and for those who want to have a closer look there are several ways to do this. You can dive into some rice fields yourself, it should be fun but will maybe less be appreciated by the farmer. In Yogyakarta daytrips are organized so people who are interested can harvest themselves at ease while they are also able to learn something about the work of the average farmer here.

Indonesian history

It is generally believed that the earliest inhabitants of the Indonesian archipelago originated in India or Burma. In 1890, fossils of Java Man (homo erectus), some 500,000 years old, were found in east Java. Later migrants ('Malays') came from southern China and Indochina, and began populating the archipelago around 3000 BC. Powerful groups such as the Buddhist Srivijaya empire and the Hindu Mataram kingdom appeared in Java and Sumatra towards the end of the 7th century. The last important kingdom to remain Hindu was the Majapahit, which was founded in the 13th century. The subsequent spread of Islam into the archipelago in the 14th century forced the Majapahits to retreat to Bali in the 15th century. (...)

· Bali bombers defiant as they await execution

1 October 2008 - Three Islamic militants on death row in Indonesia for their involvement in the deadly 2002 Bali bombings say they have no regrets about carrying out the attacks. The twin nightclub bombings killed 202 mostly foreign tourists. Speaking with a group of reporters Wednesday at a maximum security prison on an island in eastern Indonesia, the bombers warned that retribution would come to those who carry out their executions.

· Indonesia hopes on agreement on bird flu virus specimen

5 September 2008 - Indonesia hopes negotiations on the material transfer agreement for bird flu virus specimen can be rounded up at the inter-governmental meeting of WHO members in November, health minister Siti Fadillah Supari said. Indonesia hopes the agreement can be kept simple but it has to able to accommodate the interests of the developing countries, Antara news agency on Friday quoted the minister as saying.

8 July 2008 - As much as 34 political parties have passed the factual verification process and are entitled to join the general elections in 2009. There are two different groups; 16 parties which already joined the last general elections and 18 new parties.
