In every village in Bali, there are several temples and at least one small one in each home. One can therefore safely say that there are more temples than homes in Bali. Most of these temples are shrines and might not be regarded as actual temples, but the number of walled compounds is believed to reach to a total of 10,000.
Sakenan temple Hundreds of temples for religion and tourism
The temple of Sakenan is located on the island of Serangan, which is better known as 'The Island of Turtles'. Located in the southern part of the island, the place is also often used as surfing location. The temple itself however if frequently used by locals. The temple was constructed in the 13th century by a Hindu priest, Dang Hyang Dwijendra, on a small island close to the port of Benoa and Nusa Dua.
Religious rituals attract visitors to this temple as well. Visitors are able to view the entire series of traditions in this temple while Hindu people perform their prayers and later on get on boats to go to the Sakenan temple.
