Michael Paulo is no stranger for the jazz lovers who are also the loyal followers of Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival. This saxophonist is the artist in residence for one of the world's largest jazz festivals. Michael Paulo came into prominence as a smooth jazz saxophonist during the late 70's. Renowned jazz musicians, including Al Jarreau, Olleta Adams, Jeff Lorber, Jeffrey Osborne, David Benoit and Rick Braun, have invited Michael to collaborate with them.
The host of "Dolphin Days Music Festival" in Hawaii, the founder of "Temecula Wine & Music Festival" in California, and owner of recording label "Noteworthy Records", Michael Paulo began his music career in his teen years. It was in Los Angeles that he then developed his career further. His saxophone-playing is rich in harmony and
impressive. He was also the saxophonist for Al Jarreau, including for Jarreau's famously memorable "Live in London" performance. Songs from Michael Paulo's solo album have held various spots at the "Top Ten Hit" of "Contemporary Jazz/NAC Chart" and "Billboard's Contemporary Jazz Chart."
What differentiates Michael Paulo's festival performance with his upcoming performances at Moonlight on the 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th August 2008? Intimacy, that's the difference. For his performance at the exquisite jazz lounge, Michael Paulo will perform exclusively for the audience in attendance. Michael Paulo is extremely hospitable. He will not only be playing his saxophone, he will also be personally greeting members of the audience. In addition to being accompanied by the members of his band, Michael Paulo will also be accompanied by songstress Pauline Wilson.
Pauline Wilson is an old friend of Michael Paulo. Together, they have toured a number of Asian cities. Pauline Wilson's voice is both unique and seductive. Her unique twist in carrying a tune has even become one of the trademarks of Seawind, a fusion jazz group which was highly popular in the 70's, in which Pauline Wilson acts as lead vocal.
Pauline Wilson's voice has participated in enlivening a number of albums of both groups and singers in the likes of The Crusaders, The Yellow Jackets, Celine Dion, Brenda Russell and Bruce Hornsby. One of her finest achievements was when she received a Grammy Award for her duet with George Benson in song "Friends", which was featured in Benson's album "In Harmony."
Pauline Wilson has released two solo albums, "Intuition" (1994) and "Tribute" (2007). In "Tribute", a number of talented musicians were involved, including Larry Williams, Harvey Mason, Lenny Castro, Airto Moreira, Alphonso Johnson and Michael Paulo (his sax-playing in track "I Want to be Around" was praised by Pauline Wilson). In 2007, Pauline Wilson also worked on a Seawind reunion album, an album which featured Al Jarreau.
Java Festival Production, in conjunction with Moonlight and Omega Production, exclusively presents Michael Paulo and Pauline Wilson to the jazz aficionados of Indonesia. In addition, a number of Indonesian musicians will also be performing alongside Paulo and Wilson, among which is beautiful harpist Maya Hasan who will add
another interesting accent to the first-day (6 August 2008) performances at Moonlight.
Presented by Java Festival Production and Moonlight.
